Registration for Sarawak Adventure Challenge 2019

Adventure enthusiasts have one more week to sign up for this year’s Sarawak Adventure Challenge 2019, which is back – bigger and better with even more race categories.

Billed as one of the toughest adventure challenges in the region in 2018, the third edition on 12 October 2019 continues as a one-day duathlon adventure race showcasing some of the best rainforests, rivers, trails and (for this year) coastlines of Western Borneo.

With the theme “Mountain to Coast”, this year’s challenge combines the excitement and demands of cross-country mountain biking (XC MTB) and trail running.

The venue is the coastal area of Lundu, 98 km from Kuching, near the Tip of Borneo. In response to requests for more variety in the format, the 2019 SAC has expanded several categories to include (in addition to the main Men’s and Mixed team events), individual Men’s and Women’s duathlon, as well as individual MTB and individual Trail Run categories.

A new 24 km Ultra trail run category has also been included.

This year’s route will cover a challenging 50+ km, in the vicinity of Siar Village, Lundu, with the perfect brew of Sarawak’s spectacular mountains, rainforests, rivers and scenic coastal trails.

A total prize purse of just over RM 45,000 is up for grabs with first place winners in the team Duathalon competing for RM6,000.

The race will start and finish at the SALCRA Bajo Training centre near Siar Beach with trails extending around Gunung Gading, a national park famous for the world’s biggest flower, the Rafflesia.

The 2018 event last year provided direct economic benefits to the state as over 60 percent of the participants again came from outside Kuching, there was a significant spend on accommodation, local transport and food. The 2019 event hope to invite even more outside participants to the state and make Sarawak into the top adventure destination in the region.

Registration closes on August 31.

The 2019 event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Sarawak Tourism Board, Tanjong Datu assemblywoman YB Datuk Amar Hajah Jamilah Haji Anu and the Lundu District office. The event is part of the What About Kuching 2019.
